Community Crisis Fund

As we roll into the third year of the Pandemic and the tightest restrictions yet, the circumstances of many in our community are dire and so we are appealing for donations for our Community Crisis Fund to help keep these families afloat.  The Fund will assist with food packages and supplies for the quarantined, rental assistance and food vouchers for the jobless and other practical needs of those facing difficulty.   We are looking to raise an initial amount of 300,000 HKD.  

Since our founding in 1994, Inner City Ministries (ICM) has been working with Hong Kong’s Nepali ethnic community.  Many of them have been living in the Yau Tsim Mong area since the 1960s due the proximity to the former Kowloon Barracks which were located in the area now known as Kowloon Park.  

Despite a long history in the city, the Nepali minority are one of the most marginalized ethnic groups, frequently facing job and wage discrimination, lack of easy access to government programs and language barriers.  Over 300 families take part in ICM programs including Cantonese classes, a Saturday Kids’ Club, sewing classes, and homeless and drug addict outreach.    

Being one of the most marginalized minority groups in the city, the consequences of the Pandemic have hit our community particularly hard.  Many work in industries that have faced heavy disruption such as the restaurant and street cleaning industries.  Some families have lost almost all sources of income as the family breadwinners have lost their jobs or had their hours greatly reduced.

As a registered charity, we can provide tax receipts for all financial donations to the Community Crisis Fund.
