who we are

Inner City Ministries Ltd is an evangelical, non-denominational Christian mission that is committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the South Asian community here in Hong Kong. Founded in 1994 with the support of evangelical churches in Hong Kong, ICM is based in the Jordan/Yau Ma Tei district of Kowloon, and is involved in whole person ministry amongst the poor and marginalized, seeking to meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of those around us and who come to us.

Bikal worshipInner City Ministries Ltd is a registered charity under section 88 of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Ordiniance. We are governed by a Board of Directors drawn from our support churches, which ensures that we remain accountable to God and to all our stakeholders. Our accounts are published every month and submitted for annual audit.

Meet the staff team

ICM has a staff of full-time missionaries coming from the UK, North India, Nepal and Hong Kong (via Canada). Between them, our staff speak many of the major South Asian languages and share the culture of those we are reaching out to. Together, we provide a family that is open to anyone – irrespective of background or faith. We base our ministry on building loving, long-lasting relationships.

The Board of Directors

The directors are nominated from among our members and elected at a board meeting or at the Annual General Meeting. Directors are expected to be involved in an advisory capacity to different areas of ICM's ministry depending on their skills set. The Executive Director reports to the Board at each of the six or seven meetings held per year. A full list of current directors is available here.

statement of faith

Together we accept the revelation of the Triune God given in the Bible and confess the historic faith of the gospel of salvation therein set forth. We regard the following doctrines as essential to the understanding and practice of our faith, foundational to the outpouring of God’s grace, love and mercy in our lives and expressed in active discipleship, mutual love, Christian service and the proclamation of the Gospel:

The sovereignty and grace of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgment.

The divine inspiration of the Holy Scripture and its consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

The universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man, making him subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

The substitutionary sacrifice of the incarnate Son of God as the sole and all-sufficient grounds of redemption from the guilt and power of sin, and from its eternal consequences.

The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ crucified and risen from the dead.

The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

The priesthood of all believers, who form the universal Church, the body of Christ, which is committed by His command to the proclamation of the gospel throughout the world.

The expectation of the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ, in power and glory.

our mission and work

OUR COMMUNITY

Jordan smallInner City Ministries targets the physical and spiritual oppression amongst the South Asian ethnic minority in Hong Kong caused by urban poverty. We are open to all within this minority group irrespective of culture and religious belief, however, in practical terms, 90% of those we serve are Nepalese.Of the 1.2 million people who live well below the poverty line in Hong Kong, the Nepalese are one of the poorest groups severely marginalized by high unemployment, discrimination and the inherited disempowerment that comes from widespread socio-economic privation.

OUR MISSION

To bring effective and lasting TRANSFORMATION through Christian Ministry expressed in care programmes, education and vocational training.

OUR INTENDED IMPACT

To engage, enrich, educate and empower our community members to EQUIP them to reverse and rise above the marginalization, dysfunction and disempowerment endemic in the community.

What we do

We work alongside our community to show God’s love in practical and educational ways. Whilst some of our community lead stable and happy lives, there are many dysfunctional families and individuals struggling with unemployment, domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, homelessness and poor life choices. We offer programmes for children youth and adults which are designed to equip and encourage individuals, strengthen the family and provide new and lasting change in lives. These programmes are an important way of expressing our love for people and Jesus’ love for us all. However, we see people’s spiritual needs as paramount and our overarching aim is always to share the gospel and see lives changed by the power of the risen Lord Jesus. In doing this we nurture those who have given their lives to Jesus so that they too may go out and in turn minister to the community around them. For more details click on the links below
