Our Vision

Temple street missionInner City Ministries was primarily set up to bring the Gospel of Salvation to the lost and this vision and commitment has not changed. We are commanded by the great commission (Mat 28:19-20) to go and make disciples; we are given authority to heal, to minister, to cast out demons and to proclaim the Kingdom of God. These are the foundational truths of our mission and we beleive that we, along with all Christians who know and love the Lord Jesus, are called to live and work in the light of these commands. Not only are our staff commmited to sharing the love and the message of the Kingdom of God with all those who come to our centre, we are also committed to training others to do so, especially our young people, through weekly bible studies, worship and discipleship training.

Local outreach

temple street worshipAn essential part of our youth ministry and Friday fellowship involves a commitment to outreach in the local area of Jordan and Yau Ma Tei.  We visit local parks where people of all ages particularly from the South Asian ethnic community spend time in the evening.  Another focus for our outreach espoecialy in recent months has been Temple Street, known locally for its outdoor eating and market. Through worship, singing, dance, drama,  powerful testimony and preaching,  the Word of God is proclaimed. An important part of the outreach is to speak with anyone passing by who may have stopped to listen so that we can share more about the love of Jesus and pray with them. We praise God that at every outreach there are those who are recptve to the Word and who respond by giving their lives to Jesus.  We always invite them back to our centre for some refreshments and fellowship. dancing in Temple street

Mission to UGANDA 2013

  • In February 2013 a unique event happened in the life of Inner City Ministries which has had a powerful effect upon the members of our community here in Hong Kong and those of chidlren living in an orphanage in Uganda. 200 beautiful dresses made by the ladies of the sewing workshop were taken and distributed among slum children in Kampele who have never had new clothes and in many cases have only one set of clothing that they stand up in.

      HOW IT BEGAN

Sarah Chard, a staff volunteer at ICM, started the sewing workship at ICM  in autumn 2011. The sewing workshop soon gathered momentum as we obtained more sewing machines bought by various donors.  Starting out with the idea of making children's clothes initially for the charity Dress a Girl Around the World, the ladies quickly grew adept at making good quality dresses. Each week guided by Sarah the ladies have learned new skills and perfected  dressmaking. Eventually not only dresses but blankets and quilts were made to send to Burma, Nepal and local street sleepers.

      THE LINK WITH UGANDA

Sarah in ugandaWith the idea of taking the dresses directly to needy children, Sarah then made contact with a charity called The Father Children's Ministry who run an orhange for about 150 children just outside Kampala in Uganda. Trusrting God for the funds to fly out there, Sarah and Mike took 200 dresses to these children, each dress having be prayed over by the staff and the ladies here in ICM. The impact was dramatic, both in Uganda and here amongst the sewing ladies when they saw the video made of the girls receiving the dresses with wide eye excitment. The mission was so blessed by God and the encouragement given to our ladies has blessed the workshiop and increased our numbers.

      More dresses.......

......now more dresses are being made and the ladies are branching out with confidence into making boys clothes. These clothes will be taken to the UK so tat they can be taken by Brian the founder of the mission in Uganda back to clothe yet more desparate chuildren. Praise God. The quality of each item of clothing is professional and we are in awe of God's providence and grace as the women s\develops the skills and in turn receive more witness to the gospel of Grace each afternoon they meet.
